Below is the personal statement for the emergency medicine application which was sent to us by one of the users of the site. We thank him/her for the contribution. Some of the info is changed to protect the privacy of the contributor. Please don’t just copy paste but use this as a model.

I have always been excited by the prospect of saving lives from near death and critical conditions. My decision to pursue a career in emergency medicine evolved gradually after my medical school years, while working in the emergency room of a hospital in Manila, Philippines. ER is one of the places in the hospital, where a doctor’s skill and knowledge are most needed, most valued and appreciated. Working in the ER in addition to being exciting and stimulating, gave me a sense of worth, a feeling of being useful and doing an extremely important work. Also, proper diagnosis and treatment in ER results in immediate improvement in the patient’s condition, which is very satisfying. The possibility of handling diverse medical conditions from different specialties appeals to me as it will provide me opportunities to do quick and complex problem solving. Other aspect that interests me is being the first person to see the patient and work up the case. I generally find it interesting to explore all the possibilities in a new case and arrive at a differential diagnosis rather than following up a previously diagnosed case. I also love to work with my hands a lot and enjoy doing procedures. I was so interested in emergency medicine that while working as a research assistant at University of Pennsylvania, I volunteered in the emergency room at Upenn Medical School. It gave me the opportunity to observe the emergency department in a top US based hospital. I liked the dynamic and energetic nature of the ER and would love to work in such an environment.  Working in midst of so much energy and intelligence was exhilarating, challenging and it broadened my outlook in life.

I was born and brought up in Philippines. I graduated from University of Santo Tomas, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, one of the top medical colleges in Philippines. During my years in the medical school I had the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge in various basic life sciences and clinical medicine. After medical school, I did my internship primarily at University of Santo Tomas, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. With around 1000 beds for in-patient treatment and average out-patient attendance of around 2000 patients per day, as an intern I had a diverse and intense clinical experience.  The strong healthcare system in United States, numerous opportunities for research and advanced technology persuaded me to do my residency in United States. After my residency I wish to pursue fellowship in cardio-vascular emergencies or in critical care. I hope to decide after a year of residency, reflecting on what interests me most. In the long run, I wish to be an emergency room physician.

I bring diverse experience, high energy and emotional preparation required for the residency training in emergency medicine. I find the residency program at your institution to be the most desirable as it will best prepare me for my career by offering excellent clinical resources, teaching and research opportunities. I believe hard work and commitment are major tools that could help me to accomplish my dream of becoming an excellent emergency room physician. Given an opportunity, I would like to work to the best of my ability and prove to be worthy addition to your institution. Thank you

of course like your website but you have to check the spelling
on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very bothersome to tell the reality then again I
will certainly come back again.
